Thunderbird Victoria
Thunderbird is a hidden gem located in the heart of Cook Street Village that proudly serves some of crispiest, spiciest Korean Fried Chicken in the city. We provide a unique mix of authentic Korean cuisine and recipes with a North-American twist.
Our story
Fried chicken is Korea’s soul food. It plays a big role throughout our lives and it’s engrained in our culture.
Growing up, if it was payday for our parents they would treat the family to a fried chicken feast. Through the teenage years, the fried chicken diner was our go-to for hanging out with friends. In University, we would enjoy chicken and beer with friends (or a date) after class. And when we were old enough to have our own kids, the tradition continued.
When we moved to Canada in 2009 we were amazed to see that there were no Korean Fried Chicken restaurants in Victoria. We wanted to share this traditional culinary and cultural experience with our new neighbours, so we created Thunderbird Fried Chicken.
The feedback from our community has been nothing short of amazing. Even better, we’ve been able to foster a local community in Victoria around our favourite dish. And we see regulars each week that visit with their families to have the same experience we had growing up.
We’re humbled to know that our restaurant has become a staple in the Victoria food scene. We’re proud to serve the city of Victoria and we can’t wait to see what the future has in store for our city.
Our food
We believe in creating dishes with the highest-quality food, ingredients and spices.
Our main attraction is our fried chicken, which is hailed as some of the best in the city. Come try our spicy, saucy, double deep-fried creations such as the mouthwatering Yang-nyeom (sweet & spicy), or our insanely popular Megan Burger (spicy soy).
Want to kick-up the flavour even more? We also offer house-made sauces, like Parmesan Garlic, Cilantro Lime and Thunder Mayo.
We also offer a variety of specialty dishes, from our Megan Cro-Waffle (with honey butter, appleslaw & french fries) to our FireBird dish (with Jasmin rice, chicken katsu, fried sous-vide egg, braised shiitake, ginger & more).

Our restaurant
While Victoria has rated us one of the top options on delivery apps like Doordash and Skip the Dishes, the real experience comes from dining in. We offer a range of tasty dishes & local craft beers in a hip, retro diner experience. We also offer full patio service in the spring, summer and fall months. ☀️
